Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

About

On January 15, 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. became the FIRST Greek-lettered organization established in the United States by and for Black women. Staring at Howard University, Washington, DC, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle viewed the Sorority as an instrument for enriching the social and intellectual aspects of college life by providing mental stimulation through interaction with friends and associates. After her incorporation as a perpetual body on January 29, 1913, Alpha Kappa Alpha gradually branched out and became the channel through which selected college-trained women improved the social and economic conditions in their city, state, nation and the world.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Tau Pi Chapter was charted on December 9, 2012. Its charter members were: Rashunda Armstrong, Shelby Smith, Asia Ashley, Crystal Godfey, Naomi Smith, Terrika Cook, Kyana Jenkins, Theresa Tchassama, Andreas Childs, Jessica Pierce, Kaneisha Currie, and Mareva Bone. We were the First black Greek-Lettered organization chartered on Oglethorpe’s campus. We strive and impress by demonstrating immaculate lifestyles of sisterhood and service, while helping build our campus and surrounding communities. Winning numerous awards and obtaining the highest GPAs, we exert ourselves to be nothing but the best. Wondering what Tau Pi has in store? Follow our social media platforms: @Taupi1908
